The Tilda Commission
During 2002 I sold a number of pieces from an exhibition to the Tilda Rice Company for office display and after some negotiation, in 2004, I completed a large commission for them. This was a quilted wall hanging, almost 3metres square, which now hangs on the stairs at their factory in Rainham, Essex. Working to a customer’s specification is never easy and when trying to satisfy several directors it can get quite tricky! The piece is quite unlike my usual work in many ways. They were keen that the image should be clearly recognisable as ‘Tilda’ and the images are largely taken from the packaging. It was a steep learning curve for me but in the end I was pleased with the look of the piece and felt it suited the position. |
