The Grand Canyon
This stunning place has been the major theme for my work for some time. I first visited as a student many years ago and eventually took my husband there in 2000. He loved it and we returned in 2001 and 2003! The colours are magnificent and I love the idea that soft fabrics, papers and silk fibres are carefully layered to represent the build up of those ancient rocks. The small areas and stitches represent an immense, unfathomable space and the textured weathered surface caused by the passing of time. From sunrise to sunset the views and colours are constantly changing and as I work my thoughts wander over that silent space and how small it makes us humans appear. |
